RELEASES 2024RELEASES 2024NEW KITS OCTOBER 2023This is different from the lecture that was given at E-Day on Saturday, September 23rd. The partoutlining new releases for October is shortened, because they are now widely known. On thecontrary, I have added several pieces of information that were either missing from the lecture inMilovice or were not quite accurately expressed.Vladimír ŠulcThe 1:72nd scale ALBATROS kit is not new, but a face lift of an olderitem. A mold of the original kit was seriously damaged in an accidenta few years ago. This year, the mold was repaired, which mainlymeant replacing the part with the fuselage. This mold is of a so-calledgalvanized type, made of copper, and spare parts to repair the mold weremade using the original dies. In addition, we designed and manufactureda new canopy that corrects the unsatisfactory and oft criticized shapesof the original item.An L-39C belonging to the state owned LOM facility put on an aerialdisplay at E-day.The Su-25K, known here as ‘the Rake’, in 1:48th scale, is a LIMITEDedition kit. The moldings come from the Russian company Zvezda. Thekit is thematically dedicated to Su-25K service in the Czechoslovak,Czech and Slovak air forces. It also contains an illustrated publicationby Martin Janoušek. This kit is currently sold out and is not expected tobe re-released anytime soon.At E-day, there was a discussion with Su-25K pilots, Lieutenant ColonelTabaček and Majors Roztočel and Seidl.The Z-526 Trener Master in 1:48th scale isthe latest kit in the Trener line thus far. Theaircraft from the main picture, piloted by RadimVojta, was also put on a flight demonstration inMilovice.INFO EduardSpecial E-Day24October 2023Page 25
RELEASES 2024The F4F-3 Wildcat in 1:48th is the first version of the Wildcatreleased in the Weekend line.After the first edition of WUNDERSCHÖNE NEUE MASCHINEN in June, de-dicated to the Messerschmitt Bf 109F, we are releasing further versionswith the second edition, dedicated to the Bf 109G-2 and G-4, the first Bf109s powered with the DB 605 engine. We will release the kit in Novem-ber, 2023, as a Dual Combo boxing with two sets of plastic to build twocomplete models. In this case, both sets of toolings are identical.Out of a total of fourteen marking versions, seven are dedicated to theBf 109G-2 and seven to the Bf 109G-4. In addition to German machines,there are Finnish, Slovak, Romanian and Italian aircraft.Also the later S-199 version with a sliding canopy is the first version ofthis model to be released in the Weekend series.NOVEMBERSpecial E-Day INFO Eduard25October 2023Page 26
In January 2024, we will continue with the 72nd scale Bf 109G with theGustav Pt.1 kit. This will be dedicated to the Messeschmitt Bf 109G-5and early versions of Bf 109G-6. With this kit, we will probably embarkon the most interesting topic, the peak period of the development of theBf 109. During the year, we will continue with other G version aircraft.The following release will be dedicated to the late Bf 109G-6 with thetall rudder and the Erla-type canopy, as well as the Bf 109G-14, whilethe third part will get into the ‘upper’ versions of the Gustavs, theBf 109G-6/AS and the Bf 109G-14/AS. The fourth will dedicate itself tothe Bf 109G-10 of various versions. In addition to these introductorykits of the LIMITED series, we will continuously release the traditionalProfiPACK kits throughout the year.In December, the highlight of the month will be the 1:48th scale FM-1Wildcat in the ProfiPACK line. We will be releasing several accessoryitems in the Brassin line in the same month.Currently, we are completing the molds for the Bf 109Gseries in 1:72nd scale, and at the same time we are infull swing on the molds for the P-51B and C Mustang in1:48th scale. Although the kit is a P-51D conversion, it isnevertheless a very extensive conversion. In its final form,the new P-51B will share only one sprue with its P-51Dpredecessor, with additional tanks and payload.Among November's new products, you will also find the Fw 190A-7 in 1:48th scale in the ProfiPACK range. The MiG-21F-13 is also based on older MiG-21 kit designs, and likewise here, the original kit has been thoroughly redesigned from the ground up. Inthis case, it is already the third generation of our MiG-21s, and this kit will introduce interesting design and technological concepts. Due to the current economic situation, associated with a significant decrease in sales, we will postpone the implementation of some upcomingprojects to a later date, and we will give priority to economically more efficient titles. NEW DESIGNS TO HAVEPRIORITY IN 2024To the contrary, we will accelerate projectsfrom which high sales numbers can beanticipated. One such project is the 1:48thscale P-40 series, which we are workingon intensively. So intensively that weanticipate the completion of design work inthe first quarter of next year, with the factthat we want to be able to introduce thefirst version, the P-40E, in the second halfof 2024. To speed up the work, we are using,for example, scanned data, which for theP- 40 will apply in a big way. we have dataobtained by studying and scanning threeP-40 specimens of different versions.RELEASES 2024INFO EduardSpecial E-Day30October 2023Page 31
After E-day, there was a question among modellers as to what the images of the Stuka scans projected on the viewscreen after ‘the Pot’ Q and A meant.And does this mean that Eduard will release a Stuka in the future. The answer is yes, Eduard will release the Stuka. As has been the custom lately, theproject will focus on the entire development line of the Ju 87. The only thing that is not yet clear is whether the Ju 87A will also be part of the project.We will start construction immediately after the completion of the work on the P-40 project.We scanned two Stukas, a Ju 87 D at Hendon and a Ju 87 B wreck in Berlin. The data scanned by us will also be used in the reconstruction of a real Stuka,a Ju 87B, which is being renovated for an American owner in the Czech Republic and Hungary.Kits are not our only livelihood, and accessories are a huge part of what we do. We willcontinue to develop the lines of accessories that we have, and are preparing innovationsin masks and in the Brassin line. Naturally, the latter refers to predominantly 3D printedsets. Here, too, you can expect new processes and approaches. For example seats withintegrated seat belts. In addition to small and large sets, dominated by cockpits andengines, we also have very large kits in development, such as the bomb bay and landinggear bays for the F-35 in 1:48th scale. The popular monthly magazine type newsletter will also entertain youand regularly reveal new products throughout the year After this year'ssuccessful transition to the Triobo editing platform, we are planningon expanding the newsletter with a paid supplement next year. It willmainly focus on history, modeling techniques, exhibitions, aviationmuseums, the plan also involves publishing interviews with interestingpersonalities each month. The paid supplement will not mean the end ofthe classic newsletter, nor will it be reduced to historical and technicalarticles. The intention is to further expand the content, but we can nolonger provide it for free due to the costs of the expansion. I chose optical glass,a material with specific characteristicsthat affects the incoming light, reflectsand refracts it. It is a high quality glassthat is expensive to produce. We would like to take the opportunity here togive our readers a peek under the hood of theE-Day competition. Have you ever wonderedhow individual winners and award-winningmodels are chosen at an event of thismagnitude? In terms of the number of modelsin the Czech Model Masters competition,a part of E-Day, it is one of the largest,perhaps even the most extensive, event inour country.Fairly and objectively evaluating over 1,200models in 43 senior and 17 junior categoriesis not an easy task at all. Moreover, it isnecessary to bear in mind the very shortperiod of time allocated to this phase ofE-Day. Due to the limited time available, thistask demands a higher number of evaluationteams, and in addition to that, it is necessaryto set up the increased number of individualteams in such a way as to ensure objectivityand eliminate any conflicts of interest –ie. avoiding cases where a judge is alsoa competitor in a given category. You can'tsimply judge (officially) your own model onE-Day!The work of the judges starts a few weeksbefore the event itself, when it is necessaryto contact fellow modellers who will bewilling to participate in judging. A narrowercircle of judges and several substitutes willthen be formed from the wider circle ofthose approached. For this year's edition, weexpected to divide it into approximately 12-15judging committees.After the model entry deadline on the dayof the competition itself, a short briefing ofthe judging teams took place, where theevaluation criteria and the time limitationswere explained. There was a breakupinto individual teams, which was alreadyknown in advance, but on the spot we addedcolleagues who, for example, could notarrive in Milovice due to illness. Ultimately,we judged the competition at full strengthof fifteen teams of three judges. Thanks tothis, it was possible to submit the results forprocessing on time.And how does the detailed evaluationsthemselves take place? The E-daycompetition part is evaluated in a so-called comparative method, which isa simplified form of evaluation, wherethe judges do not take the models in theirhands, but try to objectively assess themodel visually. However, even with sucha simplified evaluation format, it is necessaryfor the commission to focus primarily on:• Geometry• Fidelity of work• Level of detail• Color execution• Marking execution• Realistic appearanceAssessing all these criteria is often verydifficult, almost to the point of impossible,given the number of entries, but this is alsowhy colleagues who have enough experienceto know what and how to focus are invitedto be on these teams. Individual teams inthe competition category will determinethe ranking of the first three places and atthe same time will also select the themeaward-winning models in other places.
