Notes:
5) It was made for Sasai by his father. According
to legend, during a hunt the tiger goes thousand
miles, but returns home safely. Sasai was killed
on August 26 over Guadalcanal in combat with
Wildcats of VMF-223.
6) Tainan Kōkūtai lost 20 pilots during the period
from August 7 till October 25, 1942.
7) It seems dating of this action by Sakai on July
5 is wrong. According to his unit diary it probably matches with afternoon mission of June
24, 1944 which Sakai took part. The attacking
Japanese formation was intercepted by VF-2
Hellcats. All bombers and four Zeroes were shot
down.
