EDITORIAL
Good Day, dear Friends
Today’s newsletter is being posted slightly
ahead of time in order to be able to provide
current information regarding this year’s
E-day, taking place this Saturday at the
Tankodrom Milovice (Milovice Tank Training Area), with the beginning of festivities
being slated for Friday evening, as usual.
There are a few changes in the information
that has been posted previously. They’re not
massive, but they are good to know.
I’ll begin with Friday. The exhibition hall will
be opened on Friday at 2:00 p.m. to allow
for setup by participating companies and
Club or Special Interest Groups displays.
The doors will open to participating modelers at 5:00 p.m. with registration commencing at 6:00 p.m. and closing at 8:00
p.m. that evening. Registration of models
will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and
will go on till 10:00 a.m. The evening schedule will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with
a talk show hosted by aviation artist Jaroslav Velc. This is where our first small
change comes into play. Unfortunately,
the announced book “V oblacích” (In the
Clouds) will not be available for technical
reasons (the book was to have had its baptism on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.). A second
talk show will be hosted by military analyst
and pilot Milan Mikulecký. He will recount
his aviation experiences and describe the
history of his Z-326M, which he will also
fly as part of Saturday’s planned events. He
will be also speaking about the renovations
of historical aircraft as well as the replicas
building. The third talk show was to be put
on by the owner of Special Hobby, Jiří Šilhánek, who will unfortunately not be able
to attend due to health reasons. However,
we do have substitutes in place, as our invitation was accepted by American-Czech
modeler Johnny Vojtech of UMM-USA. He
is best known for his unique line of tools
and excellent building skills, and he is
a multiple winner of the IPMS USA National Convention. His models are some of
the top examples to be seen anywhere
in the world over the past several years.
He will be demonstrating the use of his
tools on Saturday at the Aires table.
I believe that his experience with the workings of model building and of the hobby in
the US will be interesting to all that attend
this seminar. We are expecting the program
to wrap up by 8:00 p.m., though this may not
happen. It will close when it is done, whatever time that will be. Refreshment stands
will be available till 9:00 p.m. on Friday,
located in front of the hall. On Saturday,
this stand will be again in front of the hall,

with one added inside. Company tables will
be open for business on Friday, but at the
discretion of each individual company. Our
tables will be active from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00
p.m., and this may be extended, depending
on customer traffic. I do recommend visiting on Friday, because we all know how
things can look through Saturday. And for
those that don’t know, I will tell you – you
can look forward to crowds and long lineups to the checkouts. You can access the list
of vendors elsewhere in this newsletter or
at www.eday.cz. You can also find the ways
of getting to the convention area and how
to access parking for both visitors and participants. It’s not the same lot. Participating
modelers will park in the same lot as the
vendors directly below the convention centre hall building and will have their own entrance. At both locations, we will be placing
people to help with orientation. There is
a parking fee of 100 Kč (approximately 4 €)
and allows for leaving and returning to the
lot. In other words, you pay for parking only
once, and for both days, if you plan to stay
on both of them.
Stands and booths of sellers will be set up
on the ground floor, while displayed models
or Club and Special Interest Group displays will be located above on the galleries.
Access to the galleries is by stairs, and
for now there is no barrier free access
unfortunately. So, wheelchairs would be
a problem, but we are prepared to help with
access, getting wheelchairs to and from
galleries and if you should require such
assistance, please let us know at least
on entry into the convention centre.
The halls will be open to the public as of
9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with registration
opening an hour earlier. Several seller’s
stands might be opened by then as well, but
the official opening is at 9:00 a.m. on the dot
while some expositions and stands might
be still being set up prior to then. Program
details are elsewhere in this INFO and
on our E-day web pages. I would just point
out the christening of Jaroslav Velc’s aforementioned book, moderated by Ondřej Neff
and, of course, both of our usual “Hot Spot”
debates (a.k.a. „boiling kettles“) moderated by Petr Švihovec. Model workshops
will run concurrently, located in separate
room of the venue building. By the way, we
ourselves will have interesting program on
our stand with presentations of the new
releases and of the modelling techniques
when using them. The prizegiving ceremony is scheduled on 3:30 p.m. and everything
should wrap up by 5:00 p.m.
The New Releases for October
E-day will see the introduction of October’s new releases, so let’s have a look at
what awaits you at our table on Friday and
Saturday. I already wrote at length about
new kits in September’s newsletter, and
I will just sum these up by reminding everyone that the A6M3 Zero Model 32 is here
in ProfiPACK form, and there are two Limited Edition kits, MIDWAY and Z-326 Trener
Master. Furthermore, we have a Weekend
Fw 190A-8, and all of these are in 1:48th
scale. Besides that, we are re-releasing
our 1:72nd scale MiG-21PF in the ProfiPACK.
More detailed info about these releases can
be found in the next content of this issue.
Decals
One of the centerpieces of October’s new
releases is a set of rivets covering the
entire surface of Tamiya’s P-38J in 1:48th
scale. These fall under the label Eddie the
Riveter. Besides rivets, the set includes
other surface features such as fuel filler
caps. Conceptually, this set differs from the
