KITS 12/2018

JN765, No. 3 Squadron, Newchurch, Great Britain, June 1944

Part of 486 Sqn’s initial Tempest allocation, JN765 was transferred to 3 Sqn early in June 1944, coded JF-K, and regularly flown by Flg Off George Kosh.

On 1 July Kosh was seen disappearing into cloud in pursuit of a V-1 (he already had four to his credit) but crashed shortly afterwards. The official verdict

was that he had lost control in the cloud but his fellow pilots were convinced the coastal anti-aircraft batteries were to blame.
