If anyone among you has been ponderingsomething along the lines that there have seenenough MiGs, than rest assured, that that is notthe case! We are carrying on with the same themehere in July, with the release of the MiG-21MFWeekend Edition. And since there are certainlyother MiG types in the world besides the MiG-21MF, this kit will be accompanied by the LimitedEdition MiG-29A. This is not a new kit, it’s theolder Academy offering supplemented by ourbrass and Brassin accessories, along with a decalsheet produced by Cartograf, as is the commonpractice with our Limited Edition releases. We’lltake a bit of a rest from the MiGs in August.As you are probably already well aware, Augustis reserved for our 1/72nd scale Hellcat. The rstwill be the dash 3, and will be released alongwith, likely for the last time, the now somewhatarchaic 1/48th scale Tempest.In September, we will return to the MiGs,as a Limited Edition kit of the MiG-21MF inCzechoslovak service. And to keep it frombeing too simple, it will cover service withCzechoslovakia, The Czech Republic, andSlovakia. One of the ten offered markingoptions included covers ‘Lovec Tygru’ (‘TigerHunter’), well known for carrying our companylogo on the n. Also included will be the logoand an art print of the aircraft by Pavel Rampir.In October, we will be releasing the WeekendEdition of the MiG-21SMT, along with a LimitedEdition boxing of the MiG-29UB. The end of theyear should see the release of our MiG-21bis,but that’s a bit of a way off yet.July also sees MiG-21 special theme offeron our website, in the form of plastic andphotoetched components for sale for the MiG-21MF and the MiG-21SMT under the Overtreesname. This is a product offer for those whoalready have our MiG-21, and who wantsto build more versions using the other decaloptions, or using the decals produced by othermanufacturers. The kit contains plastic andphoto-etch parts and mask only, no decals, noinstructions. You can nd the purchase conditionson www.eduard.cz.Despite the onslaught of the holidays, westill have a good offering of new photoetchedbrass sets for this month. We have continued tofocus on ships, for which we have four new setsthis month, two of them covering railing types.Interesting among ship modelers will be a colorset of life rafts. In the aircraft category, we havenally nished the 1/32nd scale SUFA, the F-16Ifrom Academy. Also in 1/32nd scale, we havea set for the Hawk Mk. 53 from Revell, and twosets for the Bf 109E-4 from Dragon. Notice thatwe don’t disregard the competition!In 1/48th scale sets, I would like to directyour attention to the S-2E Tracker by Kinetic,not to be confused with the set released forItaleri’s S-3 Viking! Also worthy of pointing outis the set for the Pilatus PC-6 from Roden, andtwo sets covering the Tornado ECR from HobbyBoss. In 1/35th, we have two sets covering theNashorn by AFV Club, three for the Merkava byHobby Boss and, especially noteworthy, anotherset covering plants in the form of eld owers,butteries and bugs. Who knew? Butteriesand bugs in 35th!......evidently a popular brasssubject. Take a wild stab at which PE set wesold out rst of at ModellBrno. If you said theSunower set, you’d be bang on, followedclosely by the Grape Vines, and the mostfrequently asked question was about a releaseplan for water reeds.Other items that went like hotcakes at Brnowere MiG-21 Brassin sets. It sould appear thatnothing for the MiG-21 disappoints. In August,we will be releasing another MiG set, the rst ofBrassin cockpits for the type. However, we are inJuly, and this month sees the release of a BrassinRadar Set for the F-16.The Brno experience for us was a good one,with the usual crowds conrming your interest inour products. The dinner hour was occupied bythe usual conversation surrounding the impendingdemise of our hobby, but there was no evidenceof a crisis at the show itself. As I noted earlier,interest at our stall was large, even frenzied.Display kits also hinted at no crisis. Unofcially,there were some 3,000 entries. I would tend tobelieve the number. First of all, the boys fromBrno know how to count really, really high, andsecondly, I had a lot of work to do to makesure that I could get a look at everything onthe display tables. In connection to the CzechRepublic Junior Championship, which wasa part of the ModellBrno agenda, there was(yet again) talk of the lack of new blood inthe hobby. Well, that may always be the case,as there is an uncomfortably large amount ofdistraction in the world vying for the attentionof young people. Even I bought my son ‘RisePage 5

On the other hand,he also opted to take home four old KP kits,and with more than a little gusto, he dove in,and started gluing and painting, so perhapsthe truth about the lack of young blood liessomewhere in the middle. That would actuallyeven be supported by the junior categories atModellBrno, where one could see some reallynice pieces of work. People will always feel theinstinctive need to create something with theirown two hands to keep from going nuts, anda model should be a satisfactory outlet.There will be no ModellBrno next year, which isa bit of a surprise, but all in all, understandable.There will be one in 2013. To maintain a showof this calibre year after year at the samelocation is no small feat. Even model exhibitionsneed new impulses to stay attractive, and thosearen’t always easy to nd. The last decadehas brought the model exhibition to virtualperfection, and it raises the question of ‘whatnext?’. Its something even we are dealing with,and as was noted in an earlier newsletter,we have decided to drop E-day down to oneexhibition day. Personally, I doubt that it’ll help,and people will grumble on. Myself, I feel thatthe problem is not so much that the show goes onthrough a long Sunday, but rather that the vastmajority of people try to leave the show as soonas possible without staying to the ofcial end.That’s it from me for today. Note our ofcewill do only necessary operations the rst weekof July, because there are two state holidaysmid-week, and most people will stay home orleave for their holidays during this week. So ifwe don’t answer your e-mails until the end ofthe week, don´t worry, we will answer later, butanswer we surely will! Enjoy your holidays too,and I know we’ll see a lot of you in Omaha,and the rest in September in Pilsen. Yes, we aremaking a long overdue return to Plzen Kit, to theplace where E-day originated. At that time, this unitoperated the MiG-21MF as well as the MiG-29,and pilots also had the MiG-21UM and MiG--29UB training versions at their disposal. Thisunit served in the air force of the German De-mocratic Republic, which was the former commu-nist East Germany. The JG-3 was graced withthe name ‘Wladimir Komarow’, in honor of theSoviet Cosmonaut who died in April, 1964, whilelanding in the Soyuz I capsule. eduard14Info Eduard - July 2011The roots of the MiG-29 can be traced back tothe end of the sixties and beginning of the se-venties. At that time, information had leaked outthat the United States was working on the F-Xprogram, from which emerged the F-15 Eagle.The Soviet Union, obviously, could not be leftbehind in the arms race, and the General Staffformulated requirements for the Perspektivniyfrontovoy istrebitel (PFI - Advanced Frontal Fi-ghter Aircraft). It was to have the ability to takeoff from small, unprepared elds, have a usefulcombat radius, excellent turn around time andbe able to carry a varied payload. The speedof the machine was to be in excess of Mach 2.Aerodynamic study was passed to TSAGI in co--operation with OKB Sukhoi. It became clear thatthe best route to take would include two roads.As a result, the PFI program was expanded toalso include the PLFI (Advanced Light Frontal Fi-ghter Aircraft), which was to result in the Sovietanswer to the F-16 Fighting Falcon lightweightghter. The plans assumed that the Soviet air for-ce would be composed of one-third PFI aircraft,and two-thirds PLFI, and as such would nd itsadversary to be mainly the F-16 and the YF-17(which evolved into the F/A-18). The PFI programwith Sukhoi led to the Su-27. The PLFI was entrus-ted to the Mikoyan bureau. Work on the lattertype, under the factory designation ‘Izdelye’ 9began in 1974, and three years later, on Octo-ber 6, 1977, the aircraft rst took to the air. Theprogram suffered setbacks thanks to the loss oftwo prototypes, due to problems traced back tothe engines. In 1984, air force tests were conclu-ded, and thanks to positive results, the rst pro-MiG-29Aduction machines began to reach Soviet frontalghter units. These new aircraft began to repla-ce the MiG-23. In keeping with the requirements,the aircraft could lift off from unprepared strips.Auxiliary air intakes on top of the blended fuse-lage/wing structure provided air on the ground,allowing the regular intakes to close and preventFOD. The existence of the new ghter was dis-covered by NATO very early after the programbegan, and the ASCC allocated the name Ful-crum ‘A’. Besides the base version of the MiG-29(Izdelyie 9-12), there was also the MiG-29B, anexport version intended for countries outside ofthe Warsaw Pact. Training was carried out on atwo-seat version, the MiG-29UB (Izdelyie 9-51),Main text and proles description by Martin Ferkl,photo description by Eduard marketing departmenteduard14Info Eduard - July 2011which carried the NATO codename Fulcrum ‘B’.Further development and production was impac-ted by the fall of the communist block, and theinevitable economic collapse of the Soviet Unionand its consequent splitting up of state assetswith varying degrees of dependence on Russia.Production also came for the MiG-29K and MiG--29SMT (both coded Fulcrum ‘D’). The MiG-29Kis a navalized variant and besides with the coun-try of origin, it also ies with the Indian Navy.The intended role is that of carrier ghter forthe ‘Vikramaditya’ (formerly the Soviet carrier‘Admiral Gorshkov’). eduard15Info Eduard - July 2011HISTORYThis aircraft, bearing the serial number2960518475 was manufactured in 1986. Itserved with the 91st IAP at Lipeck-2. From No-vember, 1990, the bird ew with the 2nd Flight,115th GvIAP (Guards Fighter Unit) based at Ka-kaydy (in today’s Uzbekistan). This unit stationedat this base ew in the days of the Soviet Unionon a list of ghter types, including the MiG-17,-19, -21 and -29. During Soviet involvement inAfghanistan, Kakaydy was a key aireld in cen-tral Asia, and MiG-29s appeared here for therst time in 1989. In July, 1991, this machine wastransferred to the base Mary-1, which is locatedin today’s Turkmenistan, and was pressed intoservice with the 2nd Flight 1521st AB (Aviabaza- ‘Air Base’). This MiG-29A of the initial produc-tion phase was tasked with playing the aggres-sor role, and that explains the white cockpit fra-ming. Inuenced by combat ops with adversaryelements and VF-178 Skyraiders ying off ofthe USS Intrepid, the aircraft was adorned witha sharkmouth, a hornet on the vertical tail, andthe letters ‘AM’ on the n top. The letters ‘AM’denoted the home eld of the unit (in Russian,‘Aviabaza Mary’).MiG-29, 2nd Flight, 1521st AB, Soviet Union, Mary Air Base-1, Soviet Union, 1991-1992MiG-29A, 85th GvIAP, Merseburg AB, Germany, 1991MiG-29B, Iranian Air Force, 11th Squadron,Teheran-Mehrabad, Iran, 1990s.This aircraft, serialed 2968520142, left the as-sembly line in February, 1986. At the beginningof the nineties, it served with the 85th GvIAP(Guards) ‘Sevastopolskyi’. This unit was basedat Merseburg in East Germany. After the reu-nication of Germany, this aircraft, along withthe others of the unit, relocated to the SovietUnion at Starokonstantinov air base. The air-craft carries one of a number of variations onthe standard scheme. The left side of the nosecarries the Guards emblem, and the ‘Excellence’badge, and also the MiG OKB badge on theintake. The right side is adorned with a drawingof a leopard, that was also carried by another85th GvIAP aircraft. It’s author was apparentlyCapt. Yevgeniy Sadovoy.This aircraft was part of the rst delivery batchof MiG-29s to Iran in 1990. The actual facto-ry type was the ‘Izdelye 9-12B’, which was anelectronically downgraded export version be-low the standard of that which was deliveredto the Warsaw Pact. The Islamic Republic of IranAir Force took delivery of 24 MiG-29s between1990 and 1991, including four ‘UB’ two-seaters.Another four arrived from Iraq during the rstGulf War. Currently, Iran has two bases ope-rating MiG-29s. The 11th Squadron is basedat Mehrabad, and Tabriz is home to the 23rdSquadron.eduard15Info Eduard - July 2011Page 16

(Fighter Air Regiment) in Zatec AB in late80’s. This was one of ten MiG-29As delive-red that were capable of carrying the RN-40nuclear weapon. This capability was removedfrom the aircraft to satisfy conditions imposed byinternational nuclear disarmament agreements.In all, Czechoslovakia took delivery of eighteensingle seat and two two-seat MiG-29s from theSoviet Union. In October, 1993, the 11th slpMiG-29s were transferred to Ceske Budejoviceto the 1st slp. Over the course of dividing upassets between the Czech Republic and Slova-kia in 1993, this aircraft remained in the CzechRepublic, and became a part of a controversialagreement that saw the Czech MiGs go to Po-land for eleven W-3A Sokol utility helicopters.Today, this aircraft ies with the Polish air forcewith the bort number ‘77‘.(Photo: Karel Krejčí) (Photo: Jiří Brož)(Photo: Jiří Brož)Plane in backgroud MiG-29A No. 4012, this time still without Eduard emblem on its jet intake. Robert Cierniak, CO of No.1 Squadron ofTactical Air Force, Minsk Mazowiecki, Poland, 2005-2007This MiG-29 was own by Lt.Col. Robert ‘Skuter’Cierniak, who served as CO of No. 1 ‘Warsza-wa’ Squadron of Tactical Air Force from Decem-ber 22, 2005 to October 30, 2007. The four--leaf clover, painted on both sides of the frontof the aircraft, was a personal emblem. Thisaircraft also took part in the Polish military con-tingent ‘Orlik’, which operated in 2006 from theLithuanian base at Zoknia. The purpose was topatrol the airspace over the Baltic states, Lithu-ania, Latvia and Estonia. This role is representedby the emblem on the vertical tail surfaces. Themarking on the left side of the fuselage belowthe cockpit is that of the 7th Squadron ‘TadeuszKosciuszko’, which was a unit ghting against Ru-ssian bolsheviks during the Soviet-Polish conictin 1919-1920. The core of the unit was made upof American pilots. This aircraft was delivered in1990. Jan’s MiG-21,which was featured both in “Info” andon our Facebook gallery, sparked a lot ofcuriosity and interest among fellow mo-dellers thanks to its impressive naturalmetal nish. We are therefore providingmore details about Jan’s secrets. Belowyou may learn about Jan’s step-by-steppainting and weathering technique thathelped him achieve a realistic bare metalappearance for his EDUARD 1/48 scaleMiG-21.JZInitially I was afraid of natural metal nishes (he-reafter called NMF) because this type of nishreveals any surface imperfections such as cro-oked panel lines, scratches etc. It is absolutelyessential to achieve a perfect surface beforethe actual painting of NMF. Rivets, fasteners andother surface details also have a direct impacton the nal result.There are many different metallic hobby paintscurrently available. The best known are AlcadII, Gunze Super Metallic, Gunze Mr. Color (C--series, namely C8 Silver) and Agama. However,Agama is more of a metallic paste. This productis applied using a piece of cloth and then po-lished. I am therefore going to describe the tech-nique using Gunze Mr. Color paints. It may seemobvious, but this technique requires an airbrush.A FEW OBSERVATIONS FOR STARTERS:Before you load your airbrush it is highly advi-sable to study pictures of the real MiG-21 sin-ce two variants of its surface treatment existed;either overall in aluminum paint or left in natu-ral metal. At the rst glance both options maylook the same but the differences are noticeableupon the closer examination. NMF is identiableby its panels of different shades as well as ra-ther dirty, dusty and grayish surface. When alu-minum paint was applied, the color differencesamong the skin panels are much less evident. Thesurface is glossier too.The approach to painting also depends on thesubject. Is it a WWII veteran or a post-war jet?Further facts to be considered are operationalconditions, maintenance and type of the aircraft- we can anticipate different types of weathe-ring on ghter aircraft, transport or multi-enginebomber…PAINTING THE MIG:I started by airbrushing the whole model with Mr.Surfacer and polishing the surface. Next I spra-yed Gunze Mr Color C8 Silver thinned 3:1 in fa-vor of thinner (I prefer working with well-thinnedpaints). Then, after this base coat has thoroughlydried, I started to mask selected panels using myreference photographs of the real airplane andairbrushing six different shades mixed from C8and black. Covers and caps featured on specicpanel should differ in shade as well. Panels werepainted symmetrically - i.e. a panel on port wingwas airbrushed in the same shade as the corre-sponding panel on the starboard wing. You don’thave to follow this principle on the removablecovers such as gun access panels though. Whenall the panels were painted in different silvershades I sprayed blotches to add some variationto the previously uniform surface. When spray-ing the blotches you need to use a highly dilu-ted mixture of C8 silver and black. Again, mixand spray variety of shades adding less or morePage 25

Many fellowmodellers don’t use varnish when doing NMF butI do, due to the surface protection that it offers.WEATHERING THE MODEL:After placing the decals I brushed MIG Produc-tion’s Dark Wash on the entire model surface.The MIG production range of products (lters,502 Abteilung oil paints and washes) are my fa-vourite and I use them with great results. I wipedoff the excess wash with Odourless Turpentine.Multiple layers of washes can be applied to ob-tain desired look. Then I applied gray and ochrelters using my airbrush. The latter was appliedvery lightly as it was to represent yellowing of thevarnish. However I was not happy with the resultsso I wiped it off. Even so, the surface changed itsappearance slightly and the effect may still beseen on close examination. I continued with subtlespraying of AK Interactive Dust effects along thewings roots. As a next step I stippled turpentineinto this layer creating “wet” stains representingfootprints. I worked in circular strokes using a sti-ff brush. Since the actual footprints were black,I applied undiluted Dark Wash on the affectedwing root surfaces. I allowed this ne layer todry, then followed with Dark Wash stippling andbrushing the footprints. Dark areas around thefasteners were sprayed with a heavily thinnedmix of black and brown paints. The leaks aroundthe fasteners may be added depending on theactual wear of a particular airplane. I used St-reaking Grime by AK-Interactive. I put a dropnext to the fastener and when dry I smearedit with a brush. Several layers can be appliedthis way to represent heavier leaks. Last but notthe least came the oil stains. I used undiluted Oiland Grease Stain Mixture from MIG Production.A small drop was placed on the select area andsmeared when dry. To achieve different effectsyou can vary the shine of the surface by sprayingclear varnish on the areas where darker blotchesshow through the aluminium paint.DROP TANK WEATHERING :I followed the same procedure as describedabove for the high speed drop tanks, only omi-tted footprint wear and tear. Fluid leaks weredepicted with a drop of Mig’s Oil and GreaseStain Mixture in the fuel tank ller cap and ran-domly blown away with the airbrush. I repeatedthis four times until I was happy with the result.EXHAUST NOZZLE WEATHERING:Nozzle covers show different weathering in com-parison to the rest of the airframe. After maskingthe NMF panels, I oversprayed a darker paintmixture over the nozzle area; then applied zig--zag blotches of highly thinned green, red, blueand yellow paints. These vivid colours representthe metal annealed by the high temperature ofthe exhaust gases. Finally, I applied a wash intothe rivets and panel lines and oversprayed thenozzle edge with black paint, which I also usedfor painting the nozzle inner surfaces.Conclusion: Although this painting technique mayseem complicated, it really is not. Every step du-ring the painting process is simple provided youare handy with the airbrush, possess imaginationand are willing to experiment. As I mentionedearlier, access to plenty of reference picturesof the plane you intend to build will be quitehelpful too.Page 26

Tornado ECR 46+38
At this year's NATO Tiger Meet held in Beja, Portugal, the 1st Squadron of Germany’s Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 51 based at Schleswig, Germany, was present with six Tornado aircraft in both the IDS and ECR versions. The aircraft with fuselage number 46+38 was adorned with a matte sand scheme reflecting the Desert Tiger theme. The camouflage was very attractive and finished second in terms of the most attractive scheme, right behind a domestic F-16.

Na letošním NATO Tiger Meetu v portugalské Beji působila 1. letka německého křídla Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 51 z německého Schleswigu se šesti letouny Tornado v obou provozovaných verzích – IDS i ECR. Letoun s trupovým číslem 46+38 byl opatřen matným nástřikem pískových barev reflektujících téma pouštního tygra (Desert Tiger). Kamufláž byla velmi líbivá, v celkovém hodnocení tygřích zbarvení skončila na druhém místě hned za domácí F-16.

However, Western military assistance is becoming increasingly important for the Ukrainian Air Force. In recent months, F-16 fighters have carried the main burden of combat, performing up to 80 percent of Ukrainian Air Force missions.

Finucane’s Spitfire
Irish fighter pilot Brendan Finucane ranks among the most famous figures in the history of aerial combat during the Second World War. Not only his combat career and tragic death are surrounded by numerous question marks, but even one of his Spitfires required a thorough reassessment of all previously published material during the preparation of the kit and box art. The non-standard upper-surface scheme depicted in Piotr Forkasiewicz’s box art has already sparked debate within the modelling community. It is therefore useful to explain in more detail how we arrived at this interpretation.

Irský stíhací pilot Brendan Finucane patří mezi nejznámější osobnosti historie leteckých bojů z období druhé světové války. Nejen jeho bojová činnost a tragická smrt je opředena řadou otazníků, ale i jeden z jeho Spitfirů si při přípravě stavebnice a boxartu vyžádal důkladnou revizi dosud zveřejněných podkladů. Nestandardní schéma horních ploch, zobrazené na boxartu Piotra Forkasiewicze již vyvolalo v modelářské komunitě diskusi. Proto bude užitečné podrobněji vysvětlit, jak jsme k této interpretaci došli.
Introducing... Spitfire Mk.Vb ProfiPACK 1/72
Here it is, the new 1/72 Spitfire from Eduard is out! It has a completely new look, with all tools made entirely by Eduard, unlike the Spitfire Mk.IX 1/72, for which some of the tools were finished in China. The kit consists of three larger sprues and one medium sprue with clear parts. The entire project is designed as a family of Spitfires Mk.I, Mk.II, and Mk.V, thus some sprues contain common parts for all these versions and their subversions, and so we find several parts in the sprues that we will not use to build the selected version. I won't keep you in suspense any longer, let's take a look at what the kit contains.

We usually write about E-day no later than the week after the event, but this year it is different. As you know, E-day was held in Litomerice on the first Saturday of October, and we are just now in the process of evaluating it, after one month. Of course, this has its reasons. There is an advantage to looking back at it after almost a month, with peace of mind and a cool head. I think I will not contradict the assessment of E-day participants when I say that it was a very good event.

GSh-23 Aircraft Cannon
Certainly, the Soviet (Russian) GSh-23 aerial cannon rates near the top of the world’s widely used automatic aircraft weapons. The name of the weapon is again derived from the initials of its designers, V.P. Grjazev and A.G. Shipunov, while the number 23 indicates the weapon’s calibre in millimeters.

Jedním z představitelů celosvětově rozšířených vysokokadenčních leteckých automatických zbraní je bezesporu sovětský (ruský) typ GŠ-23. Název zbraně je opět odvozen z počátečních písmen svých konstruktérů, pánů V. P. Grjazeva a A. G. Šipunova, číslo 23 znamená ráži kanónu v milimetrech.

Vážení přátelé, modeláři, hosté a návštěvníci E-daye, V dnešním krátkém mimořádném vydání Infa vás seznámíme s plánovaným programem letošního E-daye, který se koná v sobotu 28. září 2024 v hale muzea na Tankodromu Milovice. Výstava je jednodenní, ale jako obvykle bude výstavní hala otevřena, nejen pro vystavující modeláře, již v pátek od 17:00. Na pátek máme připravený malý program pro všechny časné příchozí. Tento podvečerní program má dva body. Prvním bude představení novinek Eduardu na rok 2025, které se bude opakovat i v sobotu. Druhým bodem bude beseda s Jiřím Šilhánkem, zakladatelem a majitelem firmy Special Hobby. Jiří je velká osobnost našeho oboru, který své podnikání rozjížděl dávno před všemi ostatními českými firmami, hluboko v osmdesátých letech. Jeho historky z dějin plastikového modelářství jsou neuvěřitelné a všem doporučuji si je poslechnout. Věřte mi, že to stojí za páteční cestu do Milovic!

Vážení přátelé, dnešní mimořádné číslo Infa je věnováno mimořádné stavebnici, The Bloody Hundredth 1943/ B-17F 1:48. Tato stavebnice vydávaná v řadě LIMITED patří mezi položky, jejichž základem jsou výlisky nakoupené u spolupracujících firem. V tomto případě jde o výlisky firmy Hong Kong Models, HKM. Tentokrát jde ovšem spolupráce mezi našimi firmami dál, než je v podobných případech dodávek výlisků zvykem. Speciálně k této stavebnici jsme zkonstruovali konverzní rámeček s čirými díly, obsahující další verze přídí B-17F, než které obsahuje původní sestava dílů stavebnice HKM. Tento rámeček jsme zkonstruovali v Eduardu, pochopitelně s využitím konstrukce HKM, na kterou nové díly navazují. Forma na něj byla vyrobena firmou HKM v jejich čínské nástrojárně, výlisky byly vyrobeny tamtéž.

Dear Friends, Today's special issue of the newsletter is dedicated to an extraordinary kit, ‘The Bloody Hundredth 1943 / B-17F’ in 1:48th scale. This kit, released in the LIMITED edition line, falls under the group of items based on moldings purchased from partner companies. In this case, the plastic is supplied by Hong Kong Models, HKM. This time, however, the cooperation between our companies goes further than is customary in similar endeavors. Specifically for this kit, we have designed an additional set of clear parts that cover variations used on the B-17F nose that were not a part of the original HKM release. We designed the new parts to fit the HKM kit specifically. The mold for it was cut at HKM in their Chinese tool shop, and the parts are produced by them.

Určitě nejsem sám, komu se pravidelně stává, že se jeho předpoklady a představy o průběhu nějaké události nenaplní a výsledek je zcela opačný, než jaká byla očekávání s onou událostí spojená. Mě se to naposledy stalo před měsícem v Norimberku. Co jsem od veletrhu čekal, si jistě pamatujete z minulého úvodníku. Z mé skeptické předpovědi nevyšlo prakticky nic. Ne že by se už veletrh vrátil tam, kde byl za starých časů před covidovými lockdowny, ale byl výrazně živější, zajímavější a ve svém výsledku zábavnější a užitečnější, než bych si troufl očekávat. Troufnu si dokonce tipnout, že podobný názor má víc vystavovatelů. Mimo jiné se opakovala situace z loňska, že rozhovory a setkání byla daleko vřelejší, přátelštější a otevřenější, než kdykoli v minulosti. Možná je to jen můj pocit, ale přijde mi, že jsme se navzájem zase rádi viděli, v mnoha případech i po několika letech. V takových případech si uvědomíte, jak vám ti lidé, které jste vídal tak nějak samozřejmě a nepřišlo vám na tom nic zvláštního, přirostli k srdci a jak vám chyběli. Pak se tak hovory víc otevřou, a to je fajn.

Mnoho méně zkušených modelářů má velkou fobii z řezání do plastů nebo z většího ztenčování plastových dílů pro zástavbu doplňkových sad. V tomto díle bych chtěl čtenářům představit, že tyto pokročilejší modelářské činnosti nejsou nic těžkého a s využitím vhodných nástrojů a pomůcek se dá snadno dobrat k potřebným úpravám. Prakticky všechny větší brassinové sady po modeláři vyžadují, aby podobné úpravy při jejich zástavbách provedl. Pokud se někteří modeláři obávají doplňkové sady kupovat právě kvůli zmíněným úpravám, chtěl bych jim ukázat, že to s trochou praxe zvládnou i oni. V článku demonstruji přípravu křídla P-51B/C 1/48 pro zástavbu brassinové sady zbraňových šachet. Představím dvě metody – za pomocí pouze základních modelářských nástrojů a poté s pomocí jemné vrtačky a frézky od firmy Proxxon.

Many less experienced modelers often feel apprehensive about cutting into plastic or thinning parts to accommodate additional detailing or conversion sets. In this section, I want to reassure readers that these more advanced modeling techniques are not difficult and that, with the right tools, achieving the necessary modifications is quite manageable. Most larger Brassin sets require modelers to make similar adjustments to their builds. For those hesitant to purchase aftermarket sets due to this process, I aim to show that, with a bit of practice, anyone can master it. In this article, I will demonstrate how to prepare a 1/48 P-51B/C wing for the Brassin gun bay set. I will present two methods: one using only basic modeling tools, and the other employing a motorized Proxxon tool.

V tomto článku o pracovních postupech bych se chtěl věnovat těm nejzákladnějším modelářským postupům a technikám a demonstrovat nářadí, které mi pomáhá při rutinních činnostech, které by měl každý modelář zvládat. K této demonstraci jsem si vybral nový model P-51B/C 1/48, který má spoustu vychytávek pro jednoduché lepení modelu, například spodní vtoky u dílů, což především začátečníkům velmi usnadní práci. Pro zkušené modeláře se bude na první pohled nejspíš jednat o zbytečnou spotřebu digitálního papíru, ovšem přečtení doporučuji i jim. Opakování je totiž matka moudrosti!

Jak na 3D tisky
Poslední roky se v modelářství stále více rozmáhá využití 3D tisku, a to převážně pro výrobu doplňků. I v Eduardu jsme se před několika lety rozhodli pustit do této technologie, která z velké části vytlačila klasickou výrobu Brassinů, tedy metodu odlévání. Dnes přímým tiskem vyrábíme již okolo 80 % produkce Brassinů.

Dobrý den, vážení přátelé! Dnešní úvodník píši zase po roce v Norimberku. Letošní Spielenwarenmesse začal v úterý, dnes jsme přesně v polovině, veletrh končí v sobotu. Pořadatelé se s německou houževnatostí drží pěti dnů trvání akce, čímž jdou většině účastníků pěkně na nervy. Je to sice lepší než šest dnů, které na nás zkoušeli dříve, ale stále je to nejméně o den víc, než tu chceme a potřebujeme být. Z hlediska účasti firem je veletrh letos určitě lepší než loni, ale pokud jde o návštěvníky, obchodníky a žurnalisty, tak je situace víceméně stále bídná. Panuje tu klid. Klid je někdy fajn, ale na veletrhu je klid asi tak to poslední, co na něm chce vystavovatel zažít. Možná se to zítra a pozítří změní a veletrh ožije, ale žádné indicie k tomu nemáme. Tak začínáme uvažovat o odboji. Jak to dopadlo vám napíšu v příštím úvodníku.

Při prvním pohledu na čtvrtkového Albatrosa D.III to tak možná nevypadá, ale i on byl svého času vrcholovým predátorem válečného nebe a stavebnice přináší vrcholný mix příběhů a osudů jeho pilotů i jejich soupeřů tak, jak je u nás dobrým zvykem. Měli jsme také více než dobrý důvod si toto téma oživit, jak se za chvíli dočtete.

Welcome to the New Year! January’s new releases have been on sale for almost three weeks now, so I assume that you are already thoroughly familiar with them and many of you already have them in your posession. Nevertheless, I have to mention that, from my point of view, we are starting this year off with a bit of a bang. A first glance at the 48th scale Albatros D.III may not indicate this, but it too was once the top predator in a sky dominated by war clouds, and this kit offers a superb mix of stories and fates of its pilots and their opponents, as is our custom to uncover over the course of a kit’s development. We also had more than good reason to revive this topic, as you are about to find out.

Dobrý den, vážení přátelé! Po tříleté přestávce jsme se letos opět vypravili do Telfordu, a je dobře, že jsme se odhodlali tam jet. Přeci jen je Británie kolébkou našeho byznysu, výstava v Telfordu je největší výstavou v našem oboru a chybět na ní by byla chyba. V příštím roce budeme na výstavy vyrážet dál. Na přelomu ledna a února začneme tradičně v Norimberku. Pevně doufám, že tam letos potkáme víc kolegů z jiných firem i víc obchodníků a novinářů než loni. Přiznám se, že jsem trochu napjatý. Podle účasti firem v Norimberku můžeme posuzovat nakolik se svět vrací do normálu a všichni bychom byli určitě rádi za zjištění, že tomu tak je a svět se do normálu opravdu vrací.

Good day, Dear Friends, After a three-year break, we made a return to Telford, and it was a triumphant return at that! After all, Britain is the cradle of our business, and the Telford event is the biggest exhibition in our field and it would be a mistake to miss it. Our plan is to continue attending such events, beginning with Nuremberg in January/February.

S listopadovými novinkami jsme na tom stejně jako s říjnovými, také už jsou druhý týden v prodeji, a tak už je přinejmenším velká část čtenářů Infa zná, pokud už je rovnou nemá doma. Někteří už je dokonce lepí, a ano, jsou i tací, kteří už je mají dokonce postavené. To ovšem není v případě Bf 109 G-2 nebo G-4, obsahu té nej nej nej dvaasedmdesátinové novinky, nic složitého.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to take up precious real estate thoroughly describing the event today, since that will be covered in a Special Edition of our newsletter, slated to come out the second week of October. However, in today’s issue you will find a basic photo gallery of what was there. This year, the second to be held in Milovice, confirmed the potential of the Tankodrom for an event of this type. With that, we can continue to evolve and develop the program to satisfy the concept that goes hand in hand with the venue.

Vážení přátelé, vítám vás u srpnového Infa a zdravím z texaského Corpus Christi, kudy s kolegy projíždíme na cestě do San Marcos na tradiční letní IPMS USA Nats. Budeme v Texasu dva týdny, po Nats se přesuneme na sever do Dallasu, kde je naším hlavním plánem studium tří exemplářů P-40 Warhawk. Chceme si ověřit nějaké detaily a průběhy křivek a případně si nějaké pasáže naskenovat.

Dobrý den, vážení přátelé! Ještě před koncem první poloviny letošního roku jsme stihli přestěhovat do nového areálu v Sedleci balení modelů. To nám významně zjednodušilo logistiku, protože dosud jsme výlisky vozili z Obrnic do Mostu, kde jsme stavebnice zabalili a odvezli je do skladu obchodního oddělení v Sedleci. Ta místa od sebe nejsou daleko, je to v řádu jednotek kilometrů, ale i tak jsme se dost najezdili. Teď dělí balení modelů a sklad obchodního oddělení jedna stěna a dvoje dveře, sklad výlisků je přes dvůr.

Hello, dear friends! Even before the end of the first half of this year, we managed to move our model packaging operation to our new facility in Sedlec. This significantly simplifies our logistics, because until now, we would typically move the plastic pressings from Obrnice to Most, where they would be packed into kits, and then transported them to our warehouse and sales department in Sedlec.

Těmi báječnými novými stroji jsou Messerschmitty Bf 109 F, které při svém zavedení do výzbroje německé Luftwaffe na začátku roku 1941 přinesly nárůst výkonů a kvality německého stíhacího letectva.

This “Wonderful New Machines” kit centres around the Messerschmitt Bf 109F, which, when introduced into the arsenal of the Luftwaffe at the beginning of 1941, brought an increase in the performance and quality of German fighters committed to aerial combat.

Dobrý den, vážení přátelé! Na začátku května se soutěžní sezóna pěkně rozjíždí. Máme za sebou tradiční Mošoň, v sobotu se koná Kit show v Kopřivnici, a tak je čas říci si také něco o letošním E-dayi. E-day 2023 se koná v sobotu 23. září na Tankodromu v Milovicích. Pojedeme podle stejného schématu jako vloni, tedy se začátkem pro vystavující modeláře v pátek odpoledne, a to včetně podvečerního programu.

Good Day, Dear Friends We are at the beginning of May, and so the competition season is revving up nicely. We have just had the traditional Moson event and the Kit Show takes place in Kopřivnice on Saturday, so it´s a good time to talk about this year´s E-day. E-day 2023 takes place on Saturday, September 23 at the Tankodrom in Milovice and we will be following the same scheme as last year, meaning that exhibiting modelers begin on Friday afternoon and will include the early evening program.

Dobrý večer, vážení přátelé! Máme přestěhované obchodní oddělení. K včerejšímu dni jsme tak definitivně ukončili naši činnost v areálu Rico, kde obchodní oddělení a také oddělení kompletace stavebnic sídlilo od června roku 2019. A kde také v prosinci 2020 vyhořel sklad výlisků pro stavebnice. Přiznám se, že jsem po požáru doufal v rychlejší přestěhování do nějakých nových prostor. Hned na jaře a v létě 2020 jsme začali připravovat stavbu nové haly, ale turbulentní situace na stavebním trhu v roce 2021 nám tento záměr zhatila. Na podzim 2021 jsme začali jednat o koupi staršího areálu v Sedleci, sousední vesnici vzdálené asi pět kilometrů od Obrnic.

Good evening, Dear Friends We have completed our retail department move. As of yesterday, we have vacated the facility in Most that since June, 2019, has served as our main retail headquarters as well as the facility that served as final kit packaging. It’s also the facility in which we lost a lot of the plastic for our kits when a fire broke out in December 2020. I admit to having hoped for an earlier move to a new facility after that fire. Immediately in the spring and summer of 2020, we prepared for a new-build facility, but that was ultimately quelled by the turbulent supply issues in the construction industry.

Dobrý den, dámy a pánové! Máme zavřeno. Dnes představované březnové novinky si sice můžete prohlédnout a prostudovat jak na následujících stránkách, tak na našem e-shopu, ale nekoupíte je tam. Chápu, zní to šíleně. Nejde ale o žádný rafinovaný marketingový tah, prostě se stěhujeme. Přesně řečeno, stěhujeme obchodní oddělení. To je také důvod, proč v následujících sedmi dnech nebude možné objednávat na e-shopu. Jak jste ale jistě zaznamenali, bylo na druhou stranu možné tyto novinky nakoupit již od minulého pátku, rovněž tak jsou již k dispozici u našich obchodních partnerů.

Good day, Ladies and Gentlemen, We’re closed. Although you are certainly able to view and study our March release listing within these pages or at our e-shop, any purchases will have to be postponed. I understand that this sounds a little nuts, but it is not the result of some underhanded marketing ploy. It is a function of the fact that we are moving our entire retail department. It is also the reason why no sales will be going through our e-shop for the next seven days. As you will have probably already noted, the new items were available for early purchase from last Friday, and they will be available from our retail partners as well.
