We are takingpart in two shows this month, and that makes thisabout the busiest month of the year, at least forsome of us. We’ll be at the IPMS Nats rst, inearly August, in Omaha, and then, in late August,we will participate in the Pilzenkit show in Pilzen.And to top it off, our design ofces are gearingup for the busy release schedule for the autumnmonths on all fronts.We have a hot new little item for August.This is the month of the seventy second scaleHellcat. We are now in a position to make manysmall scale lovers happy with this kit. We havealready spent a lot of time building this new kit,and all of our testers are in agreement that thiskit follows well on the heels of the MiG-21 interms of quality and detail. I personally am verypleased to open our new 72nd scale age withhis item. Our idea is to develop well detailed,easy to built kits, with very good t and a highaccessory equipment inclusion in the Propackline. Besides the details, easy of assembly, themask, photo etch and the high quality Cartografdecals, we are also trying out a side openingbox on this item. This is the rst time that we aretrying out this kind of boxing.The second kit for August is the well knownquarter scale Tempest. For the longest time I wasagainst the re-release of this old warrior, butwhen I see all the photo-etch and resin upgradeitems, as well as the refreshed plastic and theCartograf decals, I see this is still a nice kit. Buteither way, this is really the last edition of the oldEduard quarter scale Tempest. If we do end upreleasing the Tempest again, it will surely be anew tooled kit.The Brassin line offers a single set in August,which is the early style cockpit interior for theMiG-21MF. This is the only Brassin set this month,but not the only MiG-21 accessory set forAugust, as there are some MiG-21 items amongthe photo-etched sets. All these new August itemswill be available at our booth at the IPMS Natsin Omaha, at least on the rst day of the show.If you have a question, or if you want to seeour hottest releases in person, come stop by!You will be welcome, as usual! The Hellcat’s design offeredan ideal compromise of power, durability andperformance.Development of the Hellcat started as De-signs 33 and 33A, which were developmentsof the Wildcat ghter adapted to installthe more powerful Wright R-2600 radial.In March 1938, work on an all-new naval -ghter with the R-2600 was initiated as Design35. After some basic evaluation it was deci-ded to proceed with work on the brand newdesign. In most aspects the design followedthe basic principles of the Wildcat but manyimprovements were made, including widerlanding gear, lower wings and much impro-ved visibility. Reports from the war in Europemade it clear that the new ghter must havebetter performance than the Wildcat. The USNavy ordered two XF6F-1 prototypes (BuNos2981/02982) on 30 June, 1941. It is interes-ting that the Vought Corsair was also orderedon the same day. The rst order productionorder of 1080 samples was placed in 1942.After several variants were developed andtested, the rst operational version, the F6F-3, was rst own on 3 October, 1942. FromAugust 1943, all Hellcats were tted to carrya 1504- US gal (568-liter) drop tank beneaththe fuselage. Beginning in January 1944, 60per cent of the F6F-3s were delivered withthe R-2800- 10W engines in place of theR-2800-10s, which lacked water injection.A total of 4,402 F6F-3s and last F6F-3 wasPhoto up: This F6F represents a later build -5 modelwithout the windows aft of the canopy.Srecko BradicMark NankivilMark NankivilAn F6F-3 in ight during 1942. The next version was theF6F-5, which fully replaced the older versionF6F-3 by early 1945. The night ghter versi-on F6F-5N was produced also. It is interestingthat there are two main versions and severalsubversions of the Hellcat.The Hellcat‘s rst combat mission occurredon August 31, 1943, in a strike against MarcusIsland, including CDR. Charles Crommelin‘s VF-5, LCDR Phil Torrey‘s VF-9, and a detachmentof O‘Hare‘s VF-6. The early-morning raidersdestroyed eight twin-engine bombers on theground; while losing two Hellcats to anti-air-craft re and one to engine trouble. The nextday, over Howland and Bakers Islands, LTJGDick Loesch and ENS A.W. Nyquist scored theHellcat‘s rst aerial victory when they teamedup to shoot down a Kawanishi H8K ying boat.Hellcats were used on during the big battlesoff Formosa on 12-14 October, 1944; the Se-cond Battle of the Philippine Sea on 24 and25 October; Iwo Jima in February 1945 andOkinawa in March 1945. Finally, carrier-ba-sed Hellcats provided air cover for the bom-bers attacking the remnants of the ImperialJapanese Navy, which were taking refuge inthe Inland Sea. The erce air battles were fou-ght on Japanese skies against Japanese Armyand Naval Air Forces till the cease of re.All top-scoring Navy carrier aces were F6F pi-lots, namely CDR David McCampbell of VF-15(34 victories), LCDR Cecil Harris of VF-18 and-27 (24), LCDR Gene Valencia of VF-9 (23),LCDR Alex Vraciu of VF-6, -16, and -20 (19),and LCDR Pat Fleming of VF-80 (19 each).Hellcats deployed into Marines serviceswere principally used by night ghter squad-rons, with the F6F-3Ns of VMF(N)-534 beingthe rst to reach the combat zone when theyarrived on Guam in early August 1944. Theonly claim of this unit was a Nakajima C6N1They fought hard for our freedom! This board is evidence of the Hellcat’s achievements.reconnaissance aircraft which was shot downin daylight. Night ghters F6F-3Ns were alsodeployed with VMF(N)-541, arriving in Sep-tember 1944 on Peleliu, in the Palau Islands,where it claimed its rst enemy aircraft. It thenwas credited with the destruction of twenty--two aircraft in the air and several on theground during operations from Tacloban.During the Okinawa campaign, when theyew F6F-5Ns, pilots from VMF(N)-533, 542,and 543 respectively claimed thirty-ve, ei-ghteen and fteen night air victories. All threesquadrons were on Okinawa when the warended. By early 1946, Hellcat night ghterswere serving with eight squadrons on Okina-wa and in China, Japan, and the United Sta-tes. Soon afterwards the number of squadronswas reduced, and by the end of the decadethe last Marine F6F-5Ns had been replacedby more modern aircraft.One of the USMC squadrons that operatedstandard Hellcat ghter was MAG-51 (Mari-ne Air Group 51), which in 1944 trained withTiny Tim rockets in preparation for deploy-ment to Europe (Project Danny) and opera-tions against V 1 ying- bomb launching si-tes. Other Hellcats used by USMC in combatoperations were those of VMD-354 (MarinePhotographic Squadron 354). Equipped withF6F-5Ps, this squadron was sent to Guam inMay 1945 and operated until the end of thewar from Peleliu, Ulithi, and Okinawa. Marineswere in general operated Corsairs.The main battleeld for the US Hellcats wasthe Far East but in August 1944, aircraft fromVOF-1 (Observation Fighting Squadron One)aboard the USS Tulagi (CVE-72) and VF-74aboard the USS Kasaan Bay (CVE-69) co-mmenced operations in European theater andprovided air cover during Operation Drago-on in southern France. The Hellcat’s role wasdirecting naval gunre, armed reconnaissan-ce, interdiction, strang, and bombing sorties.Few air kills were achieved during this ope-ration.The United Kingdom was only ofcial fore-igner operator of the Hellcat. A total of 1,177F6F-3s, F6F-5s, F6F-5Ns, and F6F-5Ps weredelivered to the Fleet Air Arm. I say ofcial,as one sole example was captured in Taiwanand transported to Japan during the war.The Hellcat was the most numerous Americanaircraft operated by the Fleet Air Arm duringthe war years. The rst 252 aircraft wereF6F-3s, which were to have been designatedGannet Is in British Naval service but were re-designated Hellcat Is before deliveries beganin May 1943. They were followed by 849F6F-5s and seventy-six F6F-5Ns, which re-spectively became Hellcat F. Mk. IIs and Hell-cat N.F. Mk. IIs with the Fleet Air Arm. II unarmed pho-tographic-reconnaissance aircraft. The rsttwo squadrons to be equipped with HellcatIs were Nos. 800 and 804. They were soonengaged in Operation Tungsten on 3 April,1944, during which they provided cover forstrikes against the German battleship Tirpitzanchored in Norway. During the various missi-ons in early stage UK Hellcats downed threeenemy aircraft and lost two of own (after do-gghts with Bf 109s and Fw190s). Operatingfrom HMS Emperor, they ew cover for lan-dings in Southern France.British Hellcat squadrons went into actionagainst Japan on 29 August, 1944, when Nos.1839 and 1844 aboard HMS Indomitableprovided cover during strikes against a har-bor in the Netherlands East Indies. The mostimportant combat sorties own by British Hell-cats in this theatre of operations were attackson Sumatra oil reneries in January 1945.In the closing days of the war in the Pacic,they provided only night operations cover.After the war, almost all airworthy Hellcatswere returned to the United States. The lasttwo squadrons to y the type were No.892and No.888, which disbanded in April andAugust 1946 respectively. The last Hellcat re-tained in the United Kingdom was KE209. Thisaircraft was still airworthy as late as 1953.Post War ServiceWhen the war ended, the Hellcat was quick-ly withdrawn from US front line service. Thelast example was replaced by 1948. Only thenight ghter version, the F6F-5N, served lon-ger, until the summer of 1954. However, theHellcat still saw some very important post-warwork as F6F-3K and F6F-5K drones. In July1946, F6F-3K drones were own through ra-dioactive clouds during Operation Crossroad,the famous atomic bomb test in Bikini lagoon.Between 28 August and 2 September, 1952,six F6F-5Ks of GMU-90 (Guided Missile Unit90) were launched from the USS Boxer (CV-21) against a bridge, a railway tunnel, anda power plant in North Korea. It is also im-portant to note that very rst Blue Angels ae-robatic team started with Hellcats, and it wasnamed after a night club. NASA was also oneof the post-war operators of Hellcat in USA.Post War ForeignersFrance received 179 F6F-5s and F6F-5Nsto equip units of both the Armée de l’Airoperating in Indochina; and the Aéronau-tique Navale based in France and deployedto Indochina aboard carriers. In the springof 1950, while an initial group of Aéronau-tique Navale pilots received conversion trai-ning in the United States, the rst F6F-5s wereferried to Bizerte, Tunisia, aboard the escortcarrier Dixmude to replace SupermarineSeare IIIs and XVs in service with Flottilles 1Fand 12F. Aéronautique Navale eventually re-ceived 124 F6F-5s and fteen F6F-5Ns, withthe last being received in 1953. The Arméede l’Air received forty F6F-5s and F6F-5Ns,the later which were delivered to in October1950 and were operated in Indochina bythree Groupes de Chasse. It is interesting tonote that longest operational combat serviceafter the WWII was achieved by French Hell-cats.In Indochina, Groupe de Chasse I/6 ‘Corsewas the rst French unit to use its Hellcats toprovide air support to French troops and to in-terdict Viet Minh lines of communication duringoperations from Da Nang (Tourane named byFrench) in early December 1950. Later in themonth, F6F-5s were also assigned to supple-ment the Bell P-63Cs of GC II/6 ‘NormandieNiemen.’ Both GC I/6 and GC II/6 sent Hell-cat detachments to Hanoi for operations in theTonkin area where they helped stop a majorViet Minh offensive. In March 1951, GC I/6converted to Bearcats and in April 1951, be-fore being sent back to France without equi-pment, GC II/6 began transferring its F6F-5sto GC II/9 ‘Auvergne’. This latter unit then ewHellcats until the end of 1952, when it conver-ted to Bearcats and transferred its last F6F-5sto the Aéronautique Navale.The rst combat sorties of the AéronautiqueNavale were own from the light carrierArromanches on 6 October and the carrier.Her Hellcats and Curtiss Helldivers remainedin operation until returning to France in May1952. When the carrier had to be sent backto France for ret in early 1953, Flottille 12Fwas transferred ashore and continued y-ing combat operations from the light carrierLa Fayette. eduard17Info Eduard - August 2011HISTORYeduard17Info Eduard - August 2011This machine was the sole example remaining in British service after the Second World War.It is currently on public display.These colorful machines were used post-war as drones during atomic tests.aboard the La Fayette in May 1953 and thenbegan its conversion to Vought F4U-7s. Mea-nwhile, Flottille 1F had been renumbered 11F.This unit returned to Indochina aboard Arro-manches for combat operations from October1953 until after the fall of Dien Bien Phu on 7May, 1954. Flottille 11F lost four of its Hell-cats during operations in support of the DienBien Phu garrison.Hellcats were operated at Hyeres by theSection d’Entrainement at la Chasse de Nuit(SECN), which had a number of radar-equi-pped F6F-5Ns; and by Escadrilles de Servi-tude 3S, 54S, 57S, and 59S. The last Hellcatoperations were in 1960 when four-aircraftwere sent to Algeria in 1960 in an attempt tointercept guerilla supplies across the borderwith Tunisia. Its birth is hidden in a bit ofa fog. The Fokker Dr.I was the result of lucky circumstances. In the springof 1917, the German Air Force requests a new ghter, which couldreplace the obsolete Albatros ghters. Newer British types, such as theSopwith Camel or SE 5a outclass them. At the same time, the FokkerCompany, after a couple of previous abortions, works hard on new -ghter designs to regain it‘s the lost position among German Air Forcesuppliers. Fokker builds an extensive line of prototypes, with wooden,self-contained wings, with quite a fat prole. In June 1917, they havea promising biplane, named V4. At this time, Fokker receives an Idieg(Inspektorat der Flieger, German AF technical commission) ofcial re-quest to build three triplane prototypes. Without hesitation, Fokker re-designs the V4 into a triplane. Successful trials of the new triplane yin late June 1917, and on July 14th, Idieg orders the rst 20 aircraft.The rst three prototypes acquired by the German Air Force are desig-nated Fokker F.I. The rst Triplanes to see front line service in late August1917, are two Fokker F.I prototypes, 102/17 and 103/17. Both birdsare assigned to JG I, where the most famous members employ them.Manfred Von Richthofen receives 102/17, andWerner Voss, commanderof Jasta 10, and an ace with 47 victories, gets 103/17. Richthofen getstwo victories in 102/17‘s cockpit, but this aircraft is shot down on Sep-tember the 13th when it is own by Lt.KurtWolf. Voss reaches 9 victorieswith 103/17, before he is killed in his epic ght with seven S.E.5a‘sof 56 Squadron RFC, on September the 23rd. One ofthe most successful writers of wartime memoirswas French WWII pilot Pierre Clostermann.His autobiographical book The Big Show (LeGrand Cirque) became very popular and muchloved by many boys and men. Thanks to thisbook he became more famous than many of hismore successful colleagues, assuming that wetake the number of victories to be the ultimatemark of success for a ghter pilot.Clostermann’s name will be forever associatedwith the Hawker Tempest, although he actuallyonly ew the type for a relatively short period.The Tempest was in Eduard’s sights many yearsago with its 1/48 scale kit, released around1997. The same sprues are now making an en-core appearance as a Limited Edition release.This new release will include a good selection ofnew marking options. Our intention was to selectthe most interesting planes, so the Tempests ownby Pierre Clostermann could not be ignored.Pierre Clostermann was born in Curitiba, Brazilon 28 February 1921, into the family of a Frenchdiplomat. He moved to France in his youth, wherehe lived with his uncle, Robert Aubry, a WWI air-man. During that time he discovered the memoirsof famous WWI heroes Guynemer, Navarre andFonck.After two years in France he returned to Bra-zil, where we obtained his pilot license under in-struction from Karl Benitz, who was later killedin WWII as a Luftwaffe pilot.After the French defeat in 1940, Clostermannresolved to join the Free French forces and con-tinue the struggle. He traveled to Great Britainand then to the USA, where he studied at theCalifornia Technical Institute. He completed hisglobal round trip to reach England and on 18March 1942 he joined the Free French.After RAF pilot training and ofcer school hewent to No. 61 OTU, where he sat in a Spit-re cockpit for the rst time. In January 1943Clostermann joined No. 341 “Alsace” SquadronRAF. His rst combat operation was on 24 March1943 during a photo reconnaissance mission y-ing a Spitre.His rst success came ve days later, when hedamaged one Bf 109. His debut full kills cameon 27 July, when he shot down two Fw 190s.One of Clostermann’s most controversial mo-ments came in September 1943 when, due torepeated ying indiscipline and possible contri-bution to the accidental death of his C.O., he wasforced to leave the French unit and join BritishNo. 602 Sqn.New successes followed, and on 6 July 1944he was awarded by British DFC for his seven con-rmed victories ying Spitres. At that time hecompleted his combat tour and was transferredto the HQ of Free French Air Force (the Pressbranch). During this new assignment he was pro-moted to ofcer’s rank. His long months work atHQ was interrupted only by a course at the Cen-tral Gunnery School in Catfoss.By the end of 1944 Clostermann nally tiredof work at the Press ofce in London and askedto return to a combat unit. He was amazed by the Tempest, espe-cially its speed.Clostermann was assigned to No. 274 Sqnon 2 March 1945 and scored his rst Tempestvictory three days, when he downed a Bf 109in the Hengelo area. Another change came on17 March, when he joined 56 Sqn. Closterman-n’s Tempest was hit by German ak during acombat operation on 24 March, resulting in adramatic ery crash landing and a leg injury.But four days later he was able to shoot downa Fi 153 Storch taking off from an aireld. Amuch tougher opponent came on April 2, 1945,a Fw 190 D, but Clostermann once again pre-vailed.Clostermann’s next assignment was with 3 SqnRAF. He joined the Squadron on 8 April 1945and became A Flight leader. This was the rstoccasion that he ew the Tempest with markingJF E, S/N NV994. On 20 April 1945 he claimedtwo Fw 190s, but was forced to crash-land uponreturn from the mission. Clostermann was back toying duties on 3 May 1945 with a new Tempestmarked by JF E, S/N SN222. This was the fa-mous “Le Grand Charles”.On this same day he took part on attack toGroßenbrode, which ended very successfully forClostermann. He claimed a Fw 190 D, Bv 138,Ju 252 and two Bf 109 shared with another pi-lot, and two Do 24s.A guardian angel stayed with Clostermanneven after the end of hostilities. During a militaryy-past at Bremerhaven on 12 May 1945, fourplanes of his ight collided mid-air. Clostermannwas the only pilot unhurt, although he had to bailout of his aircraft.SN222 also survived the war. Clostermann ewhis famous aircraft again during mid June in Co-penhagen. Later he also ew his previous JF E,S/N NV724.Pierre Clostermann was demobbed from themilitary on 27 August 1945, but he enlistedto return to ying duties in the 1950s duringthe Algerian conict. This time, however, insteadof powerful ghters he ew the MH.1521 Brou-ssard liaison aircraft.During peacetime Clostermann worked in topmanagement positions in the aviation industry,and he also had political career. He nally ente-red aviator’s heaven on 22 March 2006.Plastic modelers and historians often discussthe number of Clostermann’s kills and the exactappearance of his planes. Both subjects are con-troversial.Kill tallies varied partly due to the differentsystems of assessing kill conrmations by Britishand French authorities, specically by differentcounting of air and ground victories. With the useof the more powerful Hispano-Suiza HS 8Be,developing 220hp (162kW), and later theHS 8BEe at 235hp (173kW), the main dra-wback of inadequate single-gun armamentcould be addressed. The S.XIII receivedtwo Vickers machine guns with 400 rpg.Chief designer of the SPAD, Louis Bechere-au, enlarged the airframe slightly, and also,generally strengthened it. The rst prototypetook to the air on April 4th, 1917 with ReneDorme at the controls. Due to the heaviernature of the aircraft, some maneuverabilitywas lost, but climb rate was improved upon,and the maximum speed rose to 215 km/h.The initial series of the SPAD had roundedwing tips, but these quickly reverted to thoseused on the S.VII.Performance of the new ghter was suchthat a large-quantity contract was immedia-tely awarded. Nine manufacturers ultimatelytook part in production: SPAD, A.C.M.,Bernard, Bleriot, Borel, Kellner,Levasseur, Nieuport, andSAFCA. BesidesSergent Fernand Chavannes,Escadrille SPA.112, August, 1918the French air force, the SPAD S.XIII alsosaw service with the air forces of GreatBritain, the USA, Italy, Belgium, and afterthe end of the First World War, Poland andCzechoslovakia.Fernand Henri Chavannes was born onApril 16th, 1897. He served with N.112,and later with SPA.112, when the unit tran-sitioned from Nieuports to SPADs and wasaccordingly redesignated. Between Fe-bruary 8th, 1918, and August 22, 1918,he accumulated seven aerial victories.He nished the war as Sous Lieutenant withSPA.176. He lived to be 88, and died onOctober 5th, 1985 in Paris. During manu-facture, SPAD S. XIIIs received a ve-co-lor camouage scheme made up of beige,dark brown, light green, dark green andblack. Tornado ECR 46+38
At this year's NATO Tiger Meet held in Beja, Portugal, the 1st Squadron of Germany’s Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 51 based at Schleswig, Germany, was present with six Tornado aircraft in both the IDS and ECR versions. The aircraft with fuselage number 46+38 was adorned with a matte sand scheme reflecting the Desert Tiger theme. The camouflage was very attractive and finished second in terms of the most attractive scheme, right behind a domestic F-16.

Na letošním NATO Tiger Meetu v portugalské Beji působila 1. letka německého křídla Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 51 z německého Schleswigu se šesti letouny Tornado v obou provozovaných verzích – IDS i ECR. Letoun s trupovým číslem 46+38 byl opatřen matným nástřikem pískových barev reflektujících téma pouštního tygra (Desert Tiger). Kamufláž byla velmi líbivá, v celkovém hodnocení tygřích zbarvení skončila na druhém místě hned za domácí F-16.

However, Western military assistance is becoming increasingly important for the Ukrainian Air Force. In recent months, F-16 fighters have carried the main burden of combat, performing up to 80 percent of Ukrainian Air Force missions.

Finucane’s Spitfire
Irish fighter pilot Brendan Finucane ranks among the most famous figures in the history of aerial combat during the Second World War. Not only his combat career and tragic death are surrounded by numerous question marks, but even one of his Spitfires required a thorough reassessment of all previously published material during the preparation of the kit and box art. The non-standard upper-surface scheme depicted in Piotr Forkasiewicz’s box art has already sparked debate within the modelling community. It is therefore useful to explain in more detail how we arrived at this interpretation.

Irský stíhací pilot Brendan Finucane patří mezi nejznámější osobnosti historie leteckých bojů z období druhé světové války. Nejen jeho bojová činnost a tragická smrt je opředena řadou otazníků, ale i jeden z jeho Spitfirů si při přípravě stavebnice a boxartu vyžádal důkladnou revizi dosud zveřejněných podkladů. Nestandardní schéma horních ploch, zobrazené na boxartu Piotra Forkasiewicze již vyvolalo v modelářské komunitě diskusi. Proto bude užitečné podrobněji vysvětlit, jak jsme k této interpretaci došli.
Introducing... Spitfire Mk.Vb ProfiPACK 1/72
Here it is, the new 1/72 Spitfire from Eduard is out! It has a completely new look, with all tools made entirely by Eduard, unlike the Spitfire Mk.IX 1/72, for which some of the tools were finished in China. The kit consists of three larger sprues and one medium sprue with clear parts. The entire project is designed as a family of Spitfires Mk.I, Mk.II, and Mk.V, thus some sprues contain common parts for all these versions and their subversions, and so we find several parts in the sprues that we will not use to build the selected version. I won't keep you in suspense any longer, let's take a look at what the kit contains.

We usually write about E-day no later than the week after the event, but this year it is different. As you know, E-day was held in Litomerice on the first Saturday of October, and we are just now in the process of evaluating it, after one month. Of course, this has its reasons. There is an advantage to looking back at it after almost a month, with peace of mind and a cool head. I think I will not contradict the assessment of E-day participants when I say that it was a very good event.

GSh-23 Aircraft Cannon
Certainly, the Soviet (Russian) GSh-23 aerial cannon rates near the top of the world’s widely used automatic aircraft weapons. The name of the weapon is again derived from the initials of its designers, V.P. Grjazev and A.G. Shipunov, while the number 23 indicates the weapon’s calibre in millimeters.

Jedním z představitelů celosvětově rozšířených vysokokadenčních leteckých automatických zbraní je bezesporu sovětský (ruský) typ GŠ-23. Název zbraně je opět odvozen z počátečních písmen svých konstruktérů, pánů V. P. Grjazeva a A. G. Šipunova, číslo 23 znamená ráži kanónu v milimetrech.

Vážení přátelé, modeláři, hosté a návštěvníci E-daye, V dnešním krátkém mimořádném vydání Infa vás seznámíme s plánovaným programem letošního E-daye, který se koná v sobotu 28. září 2024 v hale muzea na Tankodromu Milovice. Výstava je jednodenní, ale jako obvykle bude výstavní hala otevřena, nejen pro vystavující modeláře, již v pátek od 17:00. Na pátek máme připravený malý program pro všechny časné příchozí. Tento podvečerní program má dva body. Prvním bude představení novinek Eduardu na rok 2025, které se bude opakovat i v sobotu. Druhým bodem bude beseda s Jiřím Šilhánkem, zakladatelem a majitelem firmy Special Hobby. Jiří je velká osobnost našeho oboru, který své podnikání rozjížděl dávno před všemi ostatními českými firmami, hluboko v osmdesátých letech. Jeho historky z dějin plastikového modelářství jsou neuvěřitelné a všem doporučuji si je poslechnout. Věřte mi, že to stojí za páteční cestu do Milovic!

Vážení přátelé, dnešní mimořádné číslo Infa je věnováno mimořádné stavebnici, The Bloody Hundredth 1943/ B-17F 1:48. Tato stavebnice vydávaná v řadě LIMITED patří mezi položky, jejichž základem jsou výlisky nakoupené u spolupracujících firem. V tomto případě jde o výlisky firmy Hong Kong Models, HKM. Tentokrát jde ovšem spolupráce mezi našimi firmami dál, než je v podobných případech dodávek výlisků zvykem. Speciálně k této stavebnici jsme zkonstruovali konverzní rámeček s čirými díly, obsahující další verze přídí B-17F, než které obsahuje původní sestava dílů stavebnice HKM. Tento rámeček jsme zkonstruovali v Eduardu, pochopitelně s využitím konstrukce HKM, na kterou nové díly navazují. Forma na něj byla vyrobena firmou HKM v jejich čínské nástrojárně, výlisky byly vyrobeny tamtéž.

Dear Friends, Today's special issue of the newsletter is dedicated to an extraordinary kit, ‘The Bloody Hundredth 1943 / B-17F’ in 1:48th scale. This kit, released in the LIMITED edition line, falls under the group of items based on moldings purchased from partner companies. In this case, the plastic is supplied by Hong Kong Models, HKM. This time, however, the cooperation between our companies goes further than is customary in similar endeavors. Specifically for this kit, we have designed an additional set of clear parts that cover variations used on the B-17F nose that were not a part of the original HKM release. We designed the new parts to fit the HKM kit specifically. The mold for it was cut at HKM in their Chinese tool shop, and the parts are produced by them.

Určitě nejsem sám, komu se pravidelně stává, že se jeho předpoklady a představy o průběhu nějaké události nenaplní a výsledek je zcela opačný, než jaká byla očekávání s onou událostí spojená. Mě se to naposledy stalo před měsícem v Norimberku. Co jsem od veletrhu čekal, si jistě pamatujete z minulého úvodníku. Z mé skeptické předpovědi nevyšlo prakticky nic. Ne že by se už veletrh vrátil tam, kde byl za starých časů před covidovými lockdowny, ale byl výrazně živější, zajímavější a ve svém výsledku zábavnější a užitečnější, než bych si troufl očekávat. Troufnu si dokonce tipnout, že podobný názor má víc vystavovatelů. Mimo jiné se opakovala situace z loňska, že rozhovory a setkání byla daleko vřelejší, přátelštější a otevřenější, než kdykoli v minulosti. Možná je to jen můj pocit, ale přijde mi, že jsme se navzájem zase rádi viděli, v mnoha případech i po několika letech. V takových případech si uvědomíte, jak vám ti lidé, které jste vídal tak nějak samozřejmě a nepřišlo vám na tom nic zvláštního, přirostli k srdci a jak vám chyběli. Pak se tak hovory víc otevřou, a to je fajn.

Mnoho méně zkušených modelářů má velkou fobii z řezání do plastů nebo z většího ztenčování plastových dílů pro zástavbu doplňkových sad. V tomto díle bych chtěl čtenářům představit, že tyto pokročilejší modelářské činnosti nejsou nic těžkého a s využitím vhodných nástrojů a pomůcek se dá snadno dobrat k potřebným úpravám. Prakticky všechny větší brassinové sady po modeláři vyžadují, aby podobné úpravy při jejich zástavbách provedl. Pokud se někteří modeláři obávají doplňkové sady kupovat právě kvůli zmíněným úpravám, chtěl bych jim ukázat, že to s trochou praxe zvládnou i oni. V článku demonstruji přípravu křídla P-51B/C 1/48 pro zástavbu brassinové sady zbraňových šachet. Představím dvě metody – za pomocí pouze základních modelářských nástrojů a poté s pomocí jemné vrtačky a frézky od firmy Proxxon.

Many less experienced modelers often feel apprehensive about cutting into plastic or thinning parts to accommodate additional detailing or conversion sets. In this section, I want to reassure readers that these more advanced modeling techniques are not difficult and that, with the right tools, achieving the necessary modifications is quite manageable. Most larger Brassin sets require modelers to make similar adjustments to their builds. For those hesitant to purchase aftermarket sets due to this process, I aim to show that, with a bit of practice, anyone can master it. In this article, I will demonstrate how to prepare a 1/48 P-51B/C wing for the Brassin gun bay set. I will present two methods: one using only basic modeling tools, and the other employing a motorized Proxxon tool.

V tomto článku o pracovních postupech bych se chtěl věnovat těm nejzákladnějším modelářským postupům a technikám a demonstrovat nářadí, které mi pomáhá při rutinních činnostech, které by měl každý modelář zvládat. K této demonstraci jsem si vybral nový model P-51B/C 1/48, který má spoustu vychytávek pro jednoduché lepení modelu, například spodní vtoky u dílů, což především začátečníkům velmi usnadní práci. Pro zkušené modeláře se bude na první pohled nejspíš jednat o zbytečnou spotřebu digitálního papíru, ovšem přečtení doporučuji i jim. Opakování je totiž matka moudrosti!

Jak na 3D tisky
Poslední roky se v modelářství stále více rozmáhá využití 3D tisku, a to převážně pro výrobu doplňků. I v Eduardu jsme se před několika lety rozhodli pustit do této technologie, která z velké části vytlačila klasickou výrobu Brassinů, tedy metodu odlévání. Dnes přímým tiskem vyrábíme již okolo 80 % produkce Brassinů.

Dobrý den, vážení přátelé! Dnešní úvodník píši zase po roce v Norimberku. Letošní Spielenwarenmesse začal v úterý, dnes jsme přesně v polovině, veletrh končí v sobotu. Je to sice lepší než šest dnů, které na nás zkoušeli dříve, ale stále je to nejméně o den víc, než tu chceme a potřebujeme být. Z hlediska účasti firem je veletrh letos určitě lepší než loni, ale pokud jde o návštěvníky, obchodníky a žurnalisty, tak je situace víceméně stále bídná. Panuje tu klid. Klid je někdy fajn, ale na veletrhu je klid asi tak to poslední, co na něm chce vystavovatel zažít. Možná se to zítra a pozítří změní a veletrh ožije, ale žádné indicie k tomu nemáme. Tak začínáme uvažovat o odboji. Jak to dopadlo vám napíšu v příštím úvodníku.

With German tenacity, the organizers are sticking with the five-day duration of the event, which gets on the nerves of most participants.

Vítejte v novém roce, vážení přátelé, vítejte u tříkrálového Infa! Lednové novinky jsou již bezmála tři týdny v prodeji, předpokládám tedy, že jste s nimi již zevrubně seznámeni a mnozí je již máte doma. Přesto musím zmínit, že z mého pohledu začínáme letošní rok pěkně zostra. Při prvním pohledu na čtvrtkového Albatrosa D.III to tak možná nevypadá, ale i on byl svého času vrcholovým predátorem válečného nebe a stavebnice přináší vrcholný mix příběhů a osudů jeho pilotů i jejich soupeřů tak, jak je u nás dobrým zvykem. Měli jsme také více než dobrý důvod si toto téma oživit, jak se za chvíli dočtete.

Welcome to the New Year! January’s new releases have been on sale for almost three weeks now, so I assume that you are already thoroughly familiar with them and many of you already have them in your posession. Nevertheless, I have to mention that, from my point of view, we are starting this year off with a bit of a bang. A first glance at the 48th scale Albatros D.III may not indicate this, but it too was once the top predator in a sky dominated by war clouds, and this kit offers a superb mix of stories and fates of its pilots and their opponents, as is our custom to uncover over the course of a kit’s development. We also had more than good reason to revive this topic, as you are about to find out.

Dobrý den, vážení přátelé! Po tříleté přestávce jsme se letos opět vypravili do Telfordu, a je dobře, že jsme se odhodlali tam jet. Přeci jen je Británie kolébkou našeho byznysu, výstava v Telfordu je největší výstavou v našem oboru a chybět na ní by byla chyba. V příštím roce budeme na výstavy vyrážet dál. Na přelomu ledna a února začneme tradičně v Norimberku. Pevně doufám, že tam letos potkáme víc kolegů z jiných firem i víc obchodníků a novinářů než loni. Přiznám se, že jsem trochu napjatý. Podle účasti firem v Norimberku můžeme posuzovat nakolik se svět vrací do normálu a všichni bychom byli určitě rádi za zjištění, že tomu tak je a svět se do normálu opravdu vrací.

Good day, Dear Friends, After a three-year break, we made a return to Telford, and it was a triumphant return at that! After all, Britain is the cradle of our business, and the Telford event is the biggest exhibition in our field and it would be a mistake to miss it. Our plan is to continue attending such events, beginning with Nuremberg in January/February.

S listopadovými novinkami jsme na tom stejně jako s říjnovými, také už jsou druhý týden v prodeji, a tak už je přinejmenším velká část čtenářů Infa zná, pokud už je rovnou nemá doma. Někteří už je dokonce lepí, a ano, jsou i tací, kteří už je mají dokonce postavené. To ovšem není v případě Bf 109 G-2 nebo G-4, obsahu té nej nej nej dvaasedmdesátinové novinky, nic složitého.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to take up precious real estate thoroughly describing the event today, since that will be covered in a Special Edition of our newsletter, slated to come out the second week of October. However, in today’s issue you will find a basic photo gallery of what was there. This year, the second to be held in Milovice, confirmed the potential of the Tankodrom for an event of this type. Vážení přátelé, vítám vás u srpnového Infa a zdravím z texaského Corpus Christi, kudy s kolegy projíždíme na cestě do San Marcos na tradiční letní IPMS USA Nats. Budeme v Texasu dva týdny, po Nats se přesuneme na sever do Dallasu, kde je naším hlavním plánem studium tří exemplářů P-40 Warhawk. Chceme si ověřit nějaké detaily a průběhy křivek a případně si nějaké pasáže naskenovat.

Dobrý den, vážení přátelé! Ještě před koncem první poloviny letošního roku jsme stihli přestěhovat do nového areálu v Sedleci balení modelů. To nám významně zjednodušilo logistiku, protože dosud jsme výlisky vozili z Obrnic do Mostu, kde jsme stavebnice zabalili a odvezli je do skladu obchodního oddělení v Sedleci. Ta místa od sebe nejsou daleko, je to v řádu jednotek kilometrů, ale i tak jsme se dost najezdili. Teď dělí balení modelů a sklad obchodního oddělení jedna stěna a dvoje dveře, sklad výlisků je přes dvůr.

This significantly simplifies our logistics, because until now, we would typically move the plastic pressings from Obrnice to Most, where they would be packed into kits, and then transported them to our warehouse and sales department in Sedlec.

Těmi báječnými novými stroji jsou Messerschmitty Bf 109 F, které při svém zavedení do výzbroje německé Luftwaffe na začátku roku 1941 přinesly nárůst výkonů a kvality německého stíhacího letectva.

This “Wonderful New Machines” kit centres around the Messerschmitt Bf 109F, which, when introduced into the arsenal of the Luftwaffe at the beginning of 1941, brought an increase in the performance and quality of German fighters committed to aerial combat.

Dobrý den, vážení přátelé! Na začátku května se soutěžní sezóna pěkně rozjíždí. Máme za sebou tradiční Mošoň, v sobotu se koná Kit show v Kopřivnici, a tak je čas říci si také něco o letošním E-dayi. E-day 2023 se koná v sobotu 23. září na Tankodromu v Milovicích. Pojedeme podle stejného schématu jako vloni, tedy se začátkem pro vystavující modeláře v pátek odpoledne, a to včetně podvečerního programu.

Good Day, Dear Friends We are at the beginning of May, and so the competition season is revving up nicely. We have just had the traditional Moson event and the Kit Show takes place in Kopřivnice on Saturday, so it´s a good time to talk about this year´s E-day. E-day 2023 takes place on Saturday, September 23 at the Tankodrom in Milovice and we will be following the same scheme as last year, meaning that exhibiting modelers begin on Friday afternoon and will include the early evening program.

Dobrý večer, vážení přátelé! Máme přestěhované obchodní oddělení. K včerejšímu dni jsme tak definitivně ukončili naši činnost v areálu Rico, kde obchodní oddělení a také oddělení kompletace stavebnic sídlilo od června roku 2019. A kde také v prosinci 2020 vyhořel sklad výlisků pro stavebnice. Přiznám se, že jsem po požáru doufal v rychlejší přestěhování do nějakých nových prostor. Hned na jaře a v létě 2020 jsme začali připravovat stavbu nové haly, ale turbulentní situace na stavebním trhu v roce 2021 nám tento záměr zhatila. Na podzim 2021 jsme začali jednat o koupi staršího areálu v Sedleci, sousední vesnici vzdálené asi pět kilometrů od Obrnic.

Good evening, Dear Friends We have completed our retail department move. As of yesterday, we have vacated the facility in Most that since June, 2019, has served as our main retail headquarters as well as the facility that served as final kit packaging. It’s also the facility in which we lost a lot of the plastic for our kits when a fire broke out in December 2020. I admit to having hoped for an earlier move to a new facility after that fire. Immediately in the spring and summer of 2020, we prepared for a new-build facility, but that was ultimately quelled by the turbulent supply issues in the construction industry.

Dobrý den, dámy a pánové! Máme zavřeno. Dnes představované březnové novinky si sice můžete prohlédnout a prostudovat jak na následujících stránkách, tak na našem e-shopu, ale nekoupíte je tam. Chápu, zní to šíleně. Nejde ale o žádný rafinovaný marketingový tah, prostě se stěhujeme. Přesně řečeno, stěhujeme obchodní oddělení. To je také důvod, proč v následujících sedmi dnech nebude možné objednávat na e-shopu. Jak jste ale jistě zaznamenali, bylo na druhou stranu možné tyto novinky nakoupit již od minulého pátku, rovněž tak jsou již k dispozici u našich obchodních partnerů.

I understand that this sounds a little nuts, but it is not the result of some underhanded marketing ploy. It is a function of the fact that we are moving our entire retail department. It is also the reason why no sales will be going through our e-shop for the next seven days. As you will have probably already noted, the new items were available for early purchase from last Friday, and they will be available from our retail partners as well.
