Ludovic Jules Guynemer was a volunteer who joined army
in November 1914. He became a pilot with Escadrille MS.3
in Apríl, 1915. He got his rst aerial victory, ying Morane-
Saulnier monoplane. He ew Nieuports 11 and 17, latter SPADs
7, 12 and 13. His ghting account grew to nal 53 conrmed
and 35 expected victories. He was a French national favorite,
and it was a national tragedy when he was killed in the cockpit
of this aircraft in the ght with Leutnant Kurt Wissemann
of Jagdstaffel 3.
