The Amiens Mosquito

The attack on Amiens Prison—later called Operation Jericho—remains one of the most famous and most mysterious air raids of the

Second World War. The traditional story was that the raid was carried out at the request of the French Resistance, whose members were

imprisoned there and scheduled for mass execution on February 19, 1944. Today, this is largely considered a legend: the Resistance never

formally requested the raid, and no British intelligence files confirm any planned executions. Of the roughly 690 inmates, only about 170

were resistance members or political prisoners; the majority were ordinary criminals. Still, someone ordered the raid, though to this day

it is unclear who or why. With 80 years gone, any surviving secret files may soon be declassified.

New M-346 Aircraft for Nigeria

The current inventory of the Nigerian Air Force includes mainly Chengdu J-7

fighter aircraft of Chinese origin, several new Pakistani CAC/PAC JF-17 Thunder

Block 2 jets, and an ageing fleet of Alpha Jet trainer-light attack aircraft. None of

these types fully meet the increasing demands, which is why the Nigerian gover-

nment selected a model capable of fulfilling both combat and training missions in

a modular way. The chosen aircraft is the Alenia Aermacchi M-346FA, which can

cover a broad range of missions. A total of 24 aircraft are to be delivered, with the

handover already underway. The manufacturer expects to complete the contract in

four batches, each consisting of six aircraft.

Good day, Dear Friends, Welcome to September's Newsletter. Having Jakub write about what we did in the States in August in the Tail End Charlie portion of this issue and me about how America is standing the world on its ear with all those wonderful customs, duties and tariffs, frees me up to point out some good, solid reasons why you should consider attending this year’s E-day event.

Tariffs!
In this article, I would like to explain to you, fellow modelers, our reaction to the introduction of American tariffs. This is a truly historic issue that has been shaking the world since April, when the first wave of various tariffs was imposed on various countries around the world. That this event is not indifferent to customers was also shown by our two posts on Facebook, in which we announced the suspension of sending shipments to the USA due to the cancellation of the duty-free regime for individual shipments (de minimis) and the cessation of accepting shipments to the USA by European postal outlets, and also explained our future course of action. The reaction to them was stormy, the discussion long and tense. Something like this rarely happens on our Facebook.

Air War in Ukraine - First Mirage 2000 Loss
On both the battlefield and the political front, many events took place during the observed period, but the overall situation between July 1 and July 31, 2025 did not change significantly. The Ukrainian Air Force suffered another notable loss when it lost its first Mirage 2000-5F fighter in an accident. France had supplied these aircraft between February and March of this year.

Ki-115 Tsurugi
The Ki-115 Tsurugi is a very specific aircraft, designed for kamikaze missions. It was a technologically simple aircraft that could be built quickly and in large series. Fortunately, the war ended in time for these aircraft to never see combat. Most of the 104 aircraft produced were delivered unpainted, with only the national insignia sprayed on. They never entered service; after the war, they were bulldozed to the edge of the airport and covered with dirt. And there they remain to this day. One relatively well-preserved example, transported to the US after the war, is now on display at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Arizona, right next to a B-29 Superfortress. That is, the aircraft that ended World War II and the associated bloodshed by dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Without this act, which is generally condemned today, further bloodshed would undoubtedly have continued. And the Tsurugi would certainly have played a significant role in it.

IPMS USA Nationals 2025 This year's IPMS USA Nationals took place on the first weekend of August in Virginia, specifically at the Convention Center in Hampton. I would like to give readers, especially those from Europe, an idea of how such an American exhibition works, as probably no event organized in Europe lasts as long and offers such a rich program.
