Air War in Ukraine - FPV Drones vs. Russian Aviation
During the observed period (March 1 to March 31), the war in Ukraine was overshadowed in the media by the U.S.–Israeli attack on Iran. This does not mean that the fighting in Ukraine subsided—quite the opposite. The most intense activity was taking place in the air.
Operation Epic Fury
The United States and Israel launched an attacl on Iran on the morning of February 28. The Americans called it Operation Epic Fury. Israel later also attacked Lebanon. Intense combat operations lasted until April 8, when a ceasefire mediated by Pakistan came into effect. The ceasefire was still being observed at the time this issue went to press, although negotiations had not yet made any progress.
A Fateful Rhubarb
When the Spitfire Mk.Vs of the Biggin Hill Wing returned shortly after noon on 28 January 1942 from a Channel sweep, their commander, W/Cdr Robert S. Tuck, was far from satisfied. The sortie, which had lasted less than an hour, was intended to provide cover for a convoy, yet no contact with the enemy had been made.
