I then spread and
blend the drip in
the direction of the
feathering.
I gradually remove
the paint from the
edges of the streak
with a brush until
I am satisfied with
its final appearance.
These patinators can be suitable not only for
washing engravings and rivets but also for creating
soiling from drips of operating fluids. For working
on drips, I choose a thin, pointed brush.
To create this stain, I chose the Ground Brown shade. I selected a random spot
on the wing so the stain could be clearly demonstrated. First, I painted the area
where I wanted to create the stain with the patinator along the engraving.
I let the area dry for about 3 minutes and then began to blend the drip using
a worn-out brush. Depending on the degree of blending, I choose either
a dry brush or one dipped only very slightly in thinner.
Finally, I toned it down to a very subtle streak, which, in the right
place on the aircraft, could represent, for example, a spot where
operating fluids are leaking.
