Strana 17

This pod is used to fire S-5K or S-5M unguided
rockets from an aircraft, or more modern
versions of them. The pod can be loaded with
a maximum of 16 rounds, the K and M versions
are equipped with a contact fork and must be
installed in special holders at the bottom of the
rocket motor, or the more modern S-5MO, S-5KO
and S-5KP versions have a simpler ignition
system of the rocket motor via contact rings
directly inside the rocket pod. Interchangeability
between the two versions is possible, the
individual pods have special kits for this
modification. The rocket pod structure consists
of a magnesium alloy frame, to which all other
parts and components of the pod are attached.
The front aerodynamic cover (1) is screwed to the
front part, and the removable rear aerodynamic
cover (2) is attached to the rear part of the block
using segmented protrusions. The rocket pod is
mounted using two suspension lugs(3), which
are height-adjustable. Furthermore, the block is
equipped with a front (4) and rear (5) stop (for
longitudinal and transverse stability in flight),
an electrical pin connection for connecting the
pod to the aircraft's on-board systems (6). There
is a total of 16 rounds (11 outside and 5 internal).
In the lower part of the pod, there is an electrical
pin connection (7), covered with a cap to prevent
contamination with debris for connecting the
PKPI-1 or PKC
-
RS control device, with the help of
which the electrical integrity of the circuits to the
individual rounds is checked during preliminary
preparation of the aircraft.
UB-16-57UMP Rocket Pod
Specifications:
Pod Length: 1,880mm
Round Caliber: 57mm
Empty Pod Weight: 56kg
Loaded Pod Weight: 119kg
Voltage: 27v plus/minus 10%
A UB-16-57UMP rocket pod on a transport trolley, the front is rotated 180°, with a covered pin connection
for testing the electrical system. The pods have gone through a general overhaul in the former East Germany
and are in light gray with Russian stencil data.
A rear view of the pod with its rear cover removed,
exposing the round holders.
A UB-16-57UMP, fully loaded with sixteen S-5M rocket projectiles. The pod has already been used,
as evidenced by the exhaust fume staining from the rocket motors from fired off rounds, especially
in the area of the rear aerodynamic cover (seen here on an Aero L-39ZA Albatros).
