CANADA AVIATION AND SPACE MUSEUM
The early days of aviation are represented in the museum by this Bleriot XI, built in 1911 by American engineer John W. Hamilton at the California Aero Manufacturing and Supply Company in San Francisco. The aircraft, with a unique air-cooled engine and modified tail, was grounded later that year after a series of accidents.
An almost complete aircraft was purchased for the museum‘s collection in 1971.
A 1909 replica of the AEA Silver Dart. This machine was designed and built by the Aerial Experiment Association (AEA) group led by inventor Alexander Graham Bell. Pilot John Alexander Douglas McCurdy made the first controlled powered flight in Canada and the British Empire with it on the frozen surface of a lake in Baddeck, Nova Scotia on February 23rd, 1909.
