The exercise program, in addition to joint
flying and other task performances, also
included many official and unofficial activities.
These are intended to help members of the
Tiger Squadrons get to know each other,
strengthen the spirit of working together and
strengthen relationships between them for
their possible future cooperation. Probably
the only military exercise in the world where
alcohol consumption is permitted on the base,
I think after 4:00pm, in designated areas
and of course only with the consent of the
commanding officers, in reasonable quantities
and provided that the drinkers will not directly
participate in any flight events as members of
the flying or technical personnel soon after.
Our 3366 attracted a considerable amount
of attention from the very beginning of the
exercise, and many of them tipped it as the
winner in the competition for the best scheme.
A big plus was that our helicopters, known in
the Western world under the reporting name
‘HIND’, still attract well-deserved attention
after so many years. One of our flight tasks was
a CSAR training mission, Combat Search and
Rescue, rescuing a pilot shot down in combat.
The transport of the rescue team, in this case
the Spanish Special Forces with a EZAPAC unit,
was provided by our three helicopters. I had
the opportunity to capture some moments with
a camera from the deck of the Mi-17 transport.
